The B/Sider is a storytelling series that celebrates life-long creators. Our stories are about finding substance and an edgier groove in life, rather than chasing fame, follows, or what's marketably hot. Founded by former pop singer-turned-storyteller, Petra Hanson, and co-produced with Emmy-winning writer/producer, Laurel Lindahl, The B/Sider features curated stories from all walks of life, all meant to delight and inspire both live audiences and podcast fans worldwide.
Remember when downtown NY was edgy? We're bringing back the underground—OG style—in an iconic theater space located in the original rocker-stomping-ground, The East Village.
Join us for The B/Sider Live Storytelling Series debut in NYC, hosted by NPR's rockstar comedian, Ophira Eisenberg! Our show theme, JUST FOR THE RECORD, is a rare night of music and true stories told by veterans of The Moth Mainstage, a Fellini movie extra-turned-astrologist, and former back-up singers and songwriters who've created genius tracks on both sides of the record.
Louise Goffin – A writer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer whose latest album, All These Hellos, was released in November 2018. Louise both wrote songs for and produced an album for Carole King (on Concord) that was Grammy-nominated in 2011.
Virginia Bell – A former go-go-dancer and extra in Gidget Goes to Rome, she's also an NYC health food restaurant pioneer and author of Midlife is Not a Crisis: Using Astrology to Thrive in The Second Half of Life. A full-time astrologer, she’s written astrology columns for Us Weekly, TV Guide, Refinery 29, and CBS.
Norma Garbo – A former back up singer for Billy Joel, Melba Moore, and Jimmy Cliff, turned vocal coach to The Scissor Sisters and Taylor Swift. She's been featured in The Atlantic and on Chelsea Handler's Netflix series for pioneering a voice-feminizing technique specifically for the transgender community.
Peter Aguero – A comedic storyteller and frequent host of The Moth NY Slams. He's the founder of a storytelling show called Daddy Issues who also fronts the BTK band, "the hardest-drinking improvised storytelling rock band." Lately, he prefers making pottery to performing ... unless, of course, it's The B/Sider stage.
Michele Carlo – A memoirist, podcaster and a native New Yorker, who has performed at Joe’s Pub, and on RISK’s live shows and podcast, the MOTH’s MainStage in NYC, NPR, and PBS's "Stories from the Stage." She is also the author of the NYC-set memoir Fish Out of Agua.
With musical guest, Anna Copa Cabanna – An established singer-songwriter who reflects on everyday issues with her li'l xylophone, voracious voice, and fabulous imagination. She is truth—in a sequined leotard.
